How your chats are encrypted
Chats on Lovele, one to one and in groups, are end-to-end encrypted. Only the people in a chat can read it. We cannot either: messages are stored only in encrypted form, and the keys stay on your devices.
The technical version: every message, photo and voice note is encrypted on your device with XChaCha20-Poly1305 and decrypted only on the devices of the people in the chat. Its key reaches each of them through X25519, combined with the post-quantum ML-KEM-768 wherever their app supports it. The keys are made on your device and never sent to our servers.
In a group, the name, the members, the admins and the dates are visible to our servers, so we can deliver messages. What you write is not.
Each member of a group has a security code in the group settings. If someone's code changes, for example after they reset their chat, the chat shows a line saying so.
Notifications about new messages show who wrote, never what they wrote.
Reporting is the one exception, and you choose it: when you report a message, your device sends us a signed copy of that message only. More in Reporting and blocking.
