If you are searching for the best private messaging app, you probably want one thing: a place to talk with people you know, without strangers reading along. The good news is that you can judge this with a short checklist.

This guide gives you seven features to look for, explains why each one matters, and shows how Lovele handles them. For the bigger picture, start with our secure messaging app guide.

What makes a messaging app private?

A private messaging app keeps your conversations readable only by the people in them. That means strong encryption, little exposed information about you, and a business model that does not depend on reading your chats.

Privacy is more than a lock icon. It covers who can read your messages, who can see your friends, and who can see what you share.

A good test is simple: if the company running the app were asked to hand over your messages, could it? In a well-built private app, the answer is no, because the company never holds the keys.

Which features matter most in a private messaging app?

Seven things matter most: end-to-end encryption, encrypted groups and calls, protected photos and voice notes, a private friend list, simple sign-up, a clear way the app is funded, and control over your own history.

  • End-to-end encryption on every message, not just some chats.
  • Encrypted groups and calls, not only one-to-one text.
  • Media that does not linger, such as photos and voice notes that delete themselves.
  • A private friend list that nobody else can browse.
  • Simple sign-up with no extra accounts to manage.
  • Honest funding, so you know how the app pays its bills.
  • Control of your keys, so you decide who can unlock your history.

How does Lovele cover each feature?

Lovele is a private chat app with end-to-end encrypted messages, groups and calls, and a feed only your friends see. The table shows each feature and how Lovele handles it.

Seven privacy features and how Lovele handles them
Feature Why it matters How Lovele does it
End-to-end encryption Only the people in the chat can read it Every message is encrypted before it leaves your device, and only your friend's device can decrypt it.
Groups Group chats are often less protected From a few close friends to large groups, every group message is encrypted like a one-to-one chat.
Calls Voice and video are personal too Audio and video calls, one to one or in a group, are end-to-end encrypted like your messages.
Media Old photos can resurface Photos, videos and voice messages are deleted 24 hours after you send them, or sooner if you choose.
Friend list Your contacts are private information Nobody else sees who your friends are.
Sign-up Fewer accounts mean fewer leaks One phone number, one account. No email and no password to remember.
Funding You should know who pays Advertising pays for Lovele. You never do.

Who can read your messages on Lovele?

Only the people in the conversation. Lovele's servers pass on encrypted text they cannot open, so nobody at Lovele can read your messages.

Every message, photo and voice note is encrypted on your device with XChaCha20-Poly1305 and decrypted only on the devices of the people in the chat. Its key reaches each of them through X25519, combined with the post-quantum ML-KEM-768 wherever their app supports it.

The keys are made on your device and never sent to Lovele's servers. That is why the company cannot open your chats even if it wanted to.

What about voice notes, photos and your feed?

Lovele encrypts voice notes like everything else, deletes photos, videos and voice messages after 24 hours, and shows your posts only to your mutual friends.

You can record a voice note, send it, and listen back at 1.5x or 2x. It is encrypted like every other message.

The Lovele feed lets you share photos, videos and links with a preview. Your posts reach your mutual friends and nobody else, so you can share without a public audience.

How do you sign up and what does it cost?

Your phone number is your account. You sign in with a code sent by SMS, and you never pay to use Lovele.

There is no email and no password to remember. Your number is never shown on your profile.

There are no purchases in the app. Lovele is funded by advertising, and advertisers never see your chats. Lovele is for people aged 16 and over.

To add friends, use their phone number, or bring someone in with your own invite link.

What happens if you forget your passphrase?

Nobody can reset it, Lovele included, so old messages stay unreadable. You can reset chat and start fresh: your conversations and groups stay, with new keys.

Your passphrase unlocks your chats on your device and never leaves it. That is a real privacy strength, and it also means you should choose one you can remember.

How do you choose the best private messaging app?

Pick the app that meets your checklist and that your friends will actually use. A private app only works when the people you talk with are on it too.

  1. Write down the features you need: encrypted chats, groups, calls, and media controls.
  2. Check how the app is funded and what it says about who can read messages.
  3. Try it with two or three close friends before moving a whole group.
  4. Check that it runs on your devices. Lovele works in any modern browser at https://lovele.app and has an Android app on Google Play.
  5. Set a passphrase you can remember.

Lovele also adds reward points for showing up each day. Points are a loyalty program, not money, and they never expire.
